Asthma and Honey

My little Liam has Asthma, he doesn't suffer from it all the time, but whenever anyone in our family gets a little cold it turns into a couple weeks of wheezing and coughing for Liam. Asthma is very scary, its inflammation and swelling in the air passages, it increases mucous and constructs the passages...so it is pretty much suffocating you unless you do something to stop it.  I had it as a baby, and grew out of it, and because it is hereditary then my children had a higher chance of getting it, because Liam had iugr he had an even greater chance of it. Seth had it but seems to have grown out of it for the most part, if he gets a bad cold i may have to give him his inhaler for a day or 2 but that is it. At any sight of a cold I start Liam on his Albuterol sulfate 3 times a day- I hate having him on medicine, but it does help keep his asthma under control and helps him fight off the cold faster.

Last time He was sick I googled home remedies, I knew honey helped coughs, but he was under one so I couldn't give him any, but i read somewhere that smelling fresh honey can help relax and open up the air passages...My dad had just given me some fresh honey from his honey bee's and so I thought "why not give it a try" so I did- and it worked!  When Liam smells honey for 5 or so minutes his wheezing or heavy breathing is way better than it is when he uses his inhaler! It's Amazing! Now that he is 14 months I let him eat some too to help his cough and he loves that too :) If you know Liam (or any of my kids) you know that he doesn't like to sit still for very long...my kids are always very busy and on the go! :) He will sit for 5-10 minutes smelling the honey, it really does seem to relax him and he loves smelling it! and he's so cute while doing it!
I'm so thankful for my little guy! :)

A White Thanksgiving :)

This year for Thanksgiving we decided to go up north to Minnesota to spend it with Robs parents! We were planning on leaving Wednesday, but Rob got stuck in LasVegas...(ha- he was out of town for work and their flights were delayed and they ended up in Las Vegas for a night) So we ended up traveling on Thanksgiving Day- I was a bit nervous because in the past our kids have cried the whole 11-12 hours...but  they all did so well! We ended up only stopping 2 times and made incredible time! The kids spent some time looking at books- and alot of time with their mobigo's and leap pads....which I totally recommend if you do any sort of traveling with young kids!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and then had a relaxing weekend up in cold Minnesota! :) I had been looking at the weather and it had said that it was going to be around 40-50 degrees...cold enough for the kids to have coats, but i didn't think too much and forgot coats for Rob and I....and the weather was wrong and it snowed and was about 20 degrees the whole time :) Opp's!

The boys LOVED sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top :)

Grandma brought in some snow to eat- the kids LOVED that!!!!

The boys played in the snow for the first time!

Grandpa brought the kids to cut down a Christmas Tree :)
Yes, Rob and I were in the back of a truck when it was below freezing...with no coats, thanks to me...

Then we all made ornaments out of paper :)

Trying to take a picture of 4 kids 4years and under right before bedtime is kind of challenging :)
Liam picking his nose...haha

Grandma playing toys with the kids

We celebrated Haileys 3rd birthday there too :)

She loved the cake Grandma made for her!

And her new Baby- Victoria, named after Grandma (Vicki)

Grandpa played in the snow and took them around the snowy woods for a good 45 minutes to an hour, they LOVED it!!!!

Sethy wasn't feeling too good on our way home

We had a Great weekend and we are so thankful for our LaFeve Family!
